Although the Governors Task Force no longer exists, the Rockingham County Healthy Carolinians Partnership continues to practice under the same principles and objectives established in the past, while evolving based on current and future best practices.The mission of the Partnership is to advocate, guide, and assist Rockingham County in planning and implementing health care strategies to promote healthy lifestyles, improve health status and to increase the years of quality living for all residents in the county.
Rockingham County Healthy Carolinians currently addresses three top priority areas, identified after the 2020 Rockingham County Community Health Assessment (CHA). Those areas are:
- Mental Health/Substance Abuse - Opioids
- Physical Activity and Nutrition - Diabetes
- Social Determinants - Education
The partnership address these priority areas through the hard work and dedication of three work groups.
Education
Mission: To provide resources and interventions that decrease barriers to education for all children in Rockingham County.
Be Healthy-Rockingham County, NC (formally known as the Local Physical Activity and Nutrition (LPAN) Workgroup)
Mission: To inspire Rockingham County residents and communities to seek better health through improved physical activity and nutrition.
Rockingham County Opioid Task Force (RCOTF)
Mission: To reduce misuse, overdose, and deaths in Rockingham County through community education, prevention, and collaboration.
Who can participate in the Rockingham County Healthy Carolinians Partnership:
Everyone! Community leaders, private citizens, hospitals, health department, schools, businesses, religious organizations, civic organizations and other services agencies. Anyone with a passion and advocacy for wellness and improving the health of the citizens of our county is welcomed to join Healthy Carolinians.
